The Centurian Standard:
How We Verify Our Partners

Not every scaffolding firm makes the cut. To be part of the Centurian network, every contractor undergoes a rigorous vetting process backed by 30 years of industry experience. When we send a crew to your site, they’ve already passed our tests.

1. Safety & Compliance

• CISRS Qualified: Every scaffolder must hold valid Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS) cards.

• Fully Insured: We verify Public Liability Insurance (minimum £5m-£10m) and Employers' Liability Insurance for every firm.

• TG20:21 Compliant: All structures must meet the latest NASC technical guidance for scaffolding safety.

2. Security & Reliability

• Security Checked: We perform background checks on firm owners to ensure they meet our professional integrity standards.

• Proven Track Record: We only take on firms with a minimum of 5 years of documented high-quality service in Merseyside.

• Verified Yard & Kit: We don’t just check paperwork; we ensure our partners use well-maintained, modern equipment that is fit for purpose.

3. Quality of Workmanship

• On-Site Inspections: I personally conduct spot-checks on our partners' active sites to ensure the "Centurian Standard" is being upheld.

• Professional Conduct: Our crews must be punctual, respectful of your property, and maintain a tidy site.

• Efficiency: We monitor "hand-over" times. Our firms are selected for their ability to get the job done on schedule without cutting corners.

4. Best Price Guarantee

• Competitive Tendering: Because we manage 30+ firms, we have the leverage to ensure you aren't being overcharged.

• Transparent Quotes: No hidden "hire extension" fees or surprise costs. The price we quote is the price you pay.

"I’ve spent three decades on the tools. I know the shortcuts some firms try to take, and I don't allow them on my books. When you hire through Centurian, you're hiring my 30 years of experience to watch over your project."

The Ultimate Scaffolding Safety & Compliance Checklist

A Guide for Homeowners
and Site Managers in Merseyside
Hiring scaffolding shouldn't be a gamble. Use this checklist to ensure your project meets UK safety standards and legal requirements.

1. Pre-Installation Requirements

Before a single pole is laid, ensure the following is in place:

• [ ] Proof of Insurance: Does the contractor have at least £5m Public Liability Insurance? (Centurian verified: YES)

• [ ] Training Records: Do all workers on-site hold valid CISRS (Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme) cards?

• [ ] Risk Assessment & Method Statement (RAMS): Has a site-specific safety plan been provided?

• [ ] Local Authority Permits: If the scaffolding is on a public pavement or road, has a local council permit been secured?

2. Structural Integrity (The Build)

A safe scaffold must meet TG20:21 standards. Check for these essentials:

• [ ] Level Footing: Are the uprights (standards) resting on solid timber sole boards to prevent sinking?

• [ ] Bracing: Is there visible ledger and façade bracing to prevent the structure from swaying?

• [ ] Ties: Is the scaffold securely tied to the building or adequately weighted (buttressed)?

• [ ] Guardrails: Are there double guardrails (top and mid-rail) on all working platforms?

3. Working Platform Safety

The area where you or your tradespeople will actually stand:

• [ ] Toe Boards: Are there boards around the base of the platform to prevent tools from falling off?

• [ ] Board Condition: Are the timber boards free from splits, knots, or "springy" sections?

• [ ] No Gaps: Are the boards laid tightly together to prevent trips or falling debris?

• [ ] Access: Is there a secure internal ladder or "stair tower" with a safety gate or trapdoor?

4. Post-Installation & Ongoing Use

The law requires the scaffold to be inspected regularly:

• [ ] Scafftag System: Is there a visible "Scafftag" (Green for GO, Red for DO NOT USE) at the access point?

• [ ] Handover Certificate: Did the supervisor provide a signed Handover Certificate upon completion?

• [ ] 7-Day Inspections: Is the scaffold scheduled for a safety inspection every 7 days (or after any high winds/bad weather)?
